Welcome
to SARAN ROM, Your Classical Thai Cuisine Restaurant
In Thai language, SARAN ROM means “ to enjoy ” and
“ be happy ”. Saran
Rom is also the name of a western – style palace in Bangkok.
It served as royal residence of Crown Prince Vajiravudh, the
future Rama VI and later became the ministry of foreign affairs.
Saran Rom Palace was built in the late 19th century, the same
period as Vimarn Mek Palace, the colonial-style palatial mansion
built entirely of golden teakwood with ornate Victorian fretwork.
Both palaces were built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn
Rama V.
From
1925-1935, during the reign of King Prajadhipok, Rama VII, Saran
Rom Palace was place of relaxation and celebration for the royal
families, and a place for receiving royal guests from abroad.
The palace grounds featured a purposeful theatre, an elegant
western style lounge club and the renowned royal gardens in
which many festive events and celebratory activities have taken
place.
It
is our desire to re-create the glamorous atmosphere and majestic
ambience of Saran Rom Palace, as well as to serve the classic
Thai dishes similar to those which would have been enjoyed by
the royals throughout the generations. The solid teak beam structures
and their fretwork of gingerbread carving represent our efforts
at capturing the enchanting spirit of Vimarn Mek Palace. Walk
into our Saran Rom, and experience distinctively delicate Thai
dishes; enjoy selective wines amongst inspiring Thai surroundings.
