BLUE ELEPHANT CHOSEN TO SPEARHEAD THAI GOVERNMENT’S
CAMPAIGN TO MAKE THAI CUISINE THE BEST IN THE WORLD

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 3rd 2003

Khun Nooror Somany-Steppe, founder of Blue Elephant Royal Thai Cuisine, receives the 2003 "Thai Taste-Thai Best" Award from the hands of Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister
His Excellency
Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak.

1st September 2003 saw the official launch of the Thai Government’s campaign to increase the Thai restaurant sector in the UK to well over
a half billion pound industry over the coming five years. The UK has been chosen to lead the 11.5 million euro project because of its outstanding reputation for quality and affordable cuisine.

Khun Karl Steppe, Chairman of Blue Elephant International Plc., Signs and Exchanges the memorandum of understanding
with Thailand's
Deputy Prime Minister His Excellency
Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak.

Blue Elephant, the leading Thai restaurant brand and recognised for its consistent high quality throughout the world, was the obvious choice as a partner for the Thai Government to make the campaign a success. The Blue Elephant Group meets all the criteria as a truly outstanding Thai restaurant and its commitment to using Thai produce means it is in an ideal position to help Thailand become “the kitchen of the world”.

Through the initiative, entitled “Thai Taste – Thai Best”, Thai cuisine will be publicised worldwide; standards within Thai restaurants will be significantly reinforced with a fund to boost investment in Thai restaurants. The scheme will be run by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and will be responsible for the first ever ‘Michelin’ style award – the Thai Select – which will be awarded to restaurants proved to be performing to the highest standards of quality and cuisine. The first 15 of these awards were presented at the launch and amongst those to receive one was Blue Elephant.

As well as promoting Thailand through its cuisine Blue Elephant will also be displaying locally made Thai products from the ‘One Tambon One Product’ Government initiative. These are grass-roots products of Thailand’s village communities (tambons) and are the culmination of local wisdom and experience handed down from generation to generation. The very best of these are being selected as OTOP products.
