  • BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO ALESSANDRO III, CECCHI TUSCANY ~ ITALY

Lush with dark fruits flavours and aromas. Very nice and appreciable tannins, structured and velvety. Very pleasant quality of fruit in this wine, deliver a very long and aristocrat finish.

  • LUCE FRESCOBALDI & MONDAVI, TUSCANY ~ ITALY

Tight, dark red colour, only just starting to show some age. Aromas of cherry, herbs, camphor and some oak. Giving more on the palate, where it has red berries and cherry framed by sweet oak. Concentrated palate with good structure, the taste hangs for a long time on the palate, and precisely balanced by a cross-cutting acidity and powerful tannins on the finish.

  • LUCE FRESCOBALDI & MONDAVI, TUSCANY ~ ITALY

Great blackberry jam and spice box on the nose with a perfumy overlay and a touch of leather. Very full bodied. Tannins over acidity but in a while when the tannins subside should be in perfect balance. Very nice finish.

  • BOLGHERI ‘SASSICAIA’ TENUTA SAN GUIDO, TUSCANY ~ ITALY

Very dark in colour, nearly black at its core – showing a dried herb edge to its meaty earl grey tea, cigar box and black fruit notes. Ultra-dense, compacted, and concentrated with big, structured tannins. Not a lot of fruit on the nose, though blackberry and dried currant notes linger somewhere in the background.

  • BOLGHERI ‘SASSICAIA’ TENUTA SAN GUIDO, TUSCANY ~ ITALY

Dark garnet colour. Red berry aromatics. Cherry, raspberry, plumb and currant. Very well balanced. Excellent depth and complexity in the mid palate. Closing down on the finish. This wine will be amazing with a few years of bottle age.

  • CABERNET DI TOSCANA ‘MORMORETO’

Marchesi de’ Frescoabaldi, Tuscany ~ Italy. Muscular and tart but also generous, with cigar, charcoal, and blackberry dominating. It has structure to spare; the tannins are bold and astringent. Shedding some sediment, but has some maturing still to do.

  • DUCA ENRICO DUCA DI SALAPARUTA, SICILY ~ ITALY

This wine has an aroma of ripe fruit, irises and spices, with strong, round and well–balanced flavours.

  • CONTESSA ENTELLINA ‘MILLE E UNA NOTTE’ DONNAFUGATA, SICILY ~ ITALY

90% Nero d’Avola and 10% other native varietals. This is a full bodied wine with rich black fruit notes and moderate tannins. A wine with a big structure and a remarkable personality.

  • GRANS MURALLES TORRES, CONCA DE BARBERA ~ SPAIN

Lovely dense firm, spicy palate with minerally character and firm tannins.

  • GRANS MURALLES TORRES, CONCA DE BARBERA ~ SPAIN

Very dense, full deep ruby. Savoury, smoky, densely fruity, slightly spicy. Fresh good acidity, savoury. Finishes quite short. Still quite tannic. Lovely acidity on the finish.

  • MAS LA PLANA TORRES, PENEDES ~ SPAIN

Ruby-coloured with a touch of orange. Plum, black currant and forest floor notes on the nose. On the palate it starts out with baked cherry that gives way to red and black currant, followed by a touch of damp leaves, followed by a return of the currant flavours along with mahogany and cinnamon on a dry finish that lasts for a really long time. Medium-bodied but complex and elegant.

  • MAS LA PLANA TORRES, PENEDES ~ SPAIN

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 18 months in 100% new oak. Incredible deep colour. A complex nose of chocolate, leather fruits and spices. It has a strong tannic backbone but it’s also very well balanced. There is a lot of chocolate again in the mouth, with plums, blackcurrants and black pepper that ends in a medium aftertaste.

  • MAS LA PLANA TORRES, PENEDES ~ SPAIN

A dark red with a violet tinge to the edge. The nose has fairly expressive with creamy cassis, vanilla and tobacco coming to the fore. The palate has strong tannins and dusty black fruits, a bitter, powerful taste with a long finish, in a very nice way.

  • OPUS ONE ROTHSCHILD & MONDAVI, CALIFORNIA ~ U.S.A

Medium ruby colour with bricking along the edges leads to a nose of cherry and currant soaked in oak. The palate while very velvety was devoid of complexity or luscious fruit.

  • ALMAVIVA ROTHSCHILD & CONCHA Y TORO, PUENTE ALTO ~ CHILE

Dark ruby to purple colour. Nose of blackberry, raspberry, some cassis, and vanilla. Similar fruit on the palate with vanilla, coffee, some chocolate. Still quite tannic and needs decanting at this stage. Lovely wine, though, and one that should continue to age gracefully.
