Khun Chaliew
Plangsri Special skill: Southern Thai Cuisine
Khun Chaliew was born and brought up in the Muand District in
Thailand. He always had an interest in Thai cooking and had no
doubt, even at a young age, that cooking would be his future. After
a short spell in the army, he took his first steps towards the
catering industry by starting work in his first hotel, the Grande
Ville Hotel Wangburapa in Bangkok as a Helper cook.
He has steadily progressed forward, working for different hotels for
increasingly higher positions and responsibility.
However, it was not until 1993 that he landed a job of immense responsibility, as Executive Chef for the Beach and Andaman Resort in Phuket. He was working for the Nevada Grand Hotel as Executive Chef when he responded to an opportunity for working in Europe in 1998. He joined the Blue Elephant Group in November the same year as Asst. Executive Chef. Khun Chaliew has that wonderful quality of diversity in his style of cooking, in such that he is able to have a hand in every kind of cooking (Thai cuisine). On the other hand, this unique 40 year old individual has other abilities which you would not normally expect in a Thai Chef. He is a talented singer – indeed, in his early years in Bangkok, he used to work as a part time as a singer in a night club. And he is also a kick boxer. All these unique talents make this quiet and very unobtrusive gentleman a very interesting character indeed.
