Khun Aun Sae-Lee Special skill: Thai Soups
Khun Aun, Blue Elephant Soup Specialist, joined her husband in UK in
1988 when he was recruited by the Group as a First Chef for what was
the then upcoming Thai restaurant in London. Her husband has since
left the company, but Khun Aun has opted to remain with us.
Her real name, interestingly, is also Aun, and she was born and
brought up in the North Eastern ‘Esarn’ region of Thailand.
No wonder Aun specialises in soups and salads, this
region being particularly noted for those two dishes. In
contrast, Khun Aun’s first job after high school was at a
jewellery shop. Nevertheless, once established in the Blue
Elephant kitchens, Khun Aun moved around the different areas –
3 years in curry; 2 years as a carver chef before finding her
‘home’ in the soup section where she has been since. Surely
enough, it is not difficult to recognise Khun Aun’s day off
which would be on those days when the ‘Tom Yam’ is not quite
how it should be.
