Chef Nooror Somany Steppe was conferred with an honorary Master of Arts degree from Kasetsart University, Bangkok!

A graduate in Hotel Management, Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe also studied French cuisine at the Jacobs Culinary Institute in France. Growing up in a family who made a living by selling food, Mrs. Nooror was inspired by her mother who taught and instilled in her daughter skills and valuable tips in cooking authentic Thai cuisine. Mrs. Nooror consequently developed a strong knack for creating innovative Thai dishes while retaining their original flavours and authenticity. This was an important milestone which led to the founding of the Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant, which not only serves food but is also positioned as an institution offering knowledge and training in the art of cooking authentic Thai cuisine, which in turn contributes towards making Thai food well known throughout the world.

Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe, with full support from her husband Mr. Karl Steppe, is completely committed and dedicated to preservation of the Thai food industry. She promotes use of raw products from the Royal Project and travels across the globe in an endless effort to make Thai cuisine and Thai culture widely known in various countries around the world.

Furthermore, having supported the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer (QSCBC) as well as orphanages, and due to her generosity and philanthropy, Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe has been bestowed numerous honorary titles and awards from various institutes. For example, she holds the prestigious title of QSCBC Brand Ambassador, thanks to her efforts to help bring attention to the prevention of breast cancer; she is the most talked-about woman chef on the Internet; and she has been named ‘The Most Creative Asian Cuisine Chef’.

The Blue Elephant Restaurant itself has also received many awards including ‘Thai Taste-Thai Best’, ‘Best in Britain’ (BIBA); ‘Group of the Year'; ‘The Best Thai Restaurant in the World’ by Thai Select; Prime Minister’s Export Award in ‘Best Service Provider’ category; and ‘Bangkok’s Best Restaurant Award 2013′ from Bangkok Best Dining, etc. Due to the uniqueness of the Blue Elephant Restaurant accompanied by Chef Nooror’s fame, numerous TV shows, magazines and other media, both in Thailand and abroad, have widely broadcast and featured Chef Nooror’s success story showcasing her – in various dimensions – as an exemplary citizen who selflessly works hard for the benefit of society.

Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe and Mr. Karl Steppe are both dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Thai cuisine overseas to achieve global renown. They have thus opened branches worldwide in numerous countries, not only bringing high-end Thai cuisine to the attention of the world but also raising it to the next level at their high-end restaurants.

As regards support for education, Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe and Mr. Karl Steppe have long since collaborated with Kasetsart University by offering an ongoing training programme for students as well as providing employment for graduates of the University at Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant; providing personnel for conducting research in the Faculty of Education; giving talks and lending support, e.g., teaching dining and culinary etiquette; and participating in various activities at the University, for example, providing food at University Council meetings as well as for the recent Bike for Mom event, to name but a few.

Based on such great contributions by Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe for the benefit of education in Home Economics, the Kasetsart University Council is most honoured to endorse the conferment of the Honorary Master of Arts Degree in Home Economics, Faculty of Education, to Mrs. Nooror Somany Steppe.
